Babysitting the Kids in December

Fort Worth Locations

Kalyn had to go to a conference for work for 5 days so I went over to Fort Worth to help watch the kids while Sean was at work and doing his extracurricular activities. It was a fun week being with the kids and participating in their daily routine. An Elf on the Shelf joined the house hold during the week and started making messes all over the place. Mia didn't know what to do with it - fun and games for sure. See what else we got into during this visit below...

Day 5 - Kalyn is Home, First Watch for Breakfast

Posted: December 7, 2024

Kalyn came home from her conference late last night after the kids went to bed. The elf struck again overnight with a game for Mia to play - can she build a Snowman from doughnuts. What a mess the Elf left! :-) By the time I got up, Mia had already built the snowman (which was neat). She and the Elf are having fun! We all got up and went out for breakfast at First Watch in Fort Worth, it was a good breakfast and a fun way to end the visit.

Day 4- Same Routine, Dinner Out at Pho Noodle House, Coloring!

Posted: December 6, 2024

The kids are really good about their morning routine, and they get themselves ready pretty easily. The Elf struck again today, this time feeding a yeti spaghetti which everyone knows is wrong. The Yeti barfed all over the counter! I got them to school, did some shopping and went home to do laundry and some cleaning. I picked them up after school and we went home to meet Sean and go to dinner at the Pho Noodle Place next to Central Market. We had a good dinner and headed for home. The neighbors next door have decorated their yard with lots of Christmas lights and a Santa Sleigh on the roof which is pretty cool looking. Before bed, Mia did some coloring in the Star Wars book and Jack tried to help. It was a good evening, good stuff all around.

Day 3 - Daily Routine, Central Market, Playing in Backyard after School

Posted: December 5, 2024

It seems this morning that the Elf (Snowflake) has left some Banana Bread for Mia? Yuck! Silly Elf. The kids got their breakfast and we headed off to school, no issues. They make it pretty easy. I stopped by Central Market to pick up a few things, and I had to stop by the bakery. They had really cool Reindeer Cake in the window. Neat! I stayed around the house for the most part until it was time to pick up the kids. We came home and while I cooked dinner, they played in the backyard since it was a nice evening outside. They came in and we ate dinner, and then went through the bath and bed routine as scheduled.

Day 2 - Morning Routine, Lunch with Ken and Hadie, Pick Up Kids

Posted: December 4, 2024

Today was my first morning on drop off duty, so we got up early and Sean and I got the kids ready. He headed to work, and I got the kids breakfast. Mia's Elf (Snowflake) left her a "Toast" (actually burnt toast) to say hi and start the hi-jinks. Mia was over the moon with it. We headed to school and I dropped off the kids and headed home to do some house work. For lunch, I met Ken and Hadie at the Tokyo Cafe and had some pretty good food. I really like the decorations in this restaurant, they're really cool. After lunch, I went and picked up the kids from school, and headed home. We cooked dinner and went through the nightly routine of baths and getting ready for bed - it was pretty smooth sailing with both kids - they do well.

Day 1 - Picking the Kids up From School - Dinner Routine

Posted: December 3, 2024

So today, Kalyn dropped the kids off for School before heading to her conference. After going to the zoo, I went by and picked up the kids from school and headed for home. When we got home, we found that Mia's Elf on the Shelf had started her extracurricular activities and obviously wanted to do some fishing while we weren't home - what a mess! Mia was pretty happy with it :-) We then started dinner, and sat down to some pasta and spaghetti sauce. Jack was big help with dinner overseeing what I was trying to do. After dinner we went through baths and got ready for bed. This kids made it pretty easy tonight.

Day 1 - Visiting Fort Worth Zoo - Flying Solo

Posted: December 3, 2024

Kalyn offered to drop the kids off at school before heading to her teacher's conference so I got up and went over the Fort Worth Zoo by myself to wander around for a few hours since we have annual passes. it wasn't very crowded which was great and I got to spend more time trying to take some good pictures without having to fight people in the way. There were several classes of kids there on field trips which was cool to see. I got to see some of the large cats up close this time - they were moving around. The gorilla's weren't very active today but the elephants and the giraffes were - I got to feed the giraffes which I always like. I had lunch at the zoo and then headed home before going to pick up the kids. Going mid-week seems to be a good thing, much less crowded than the weekends or during the summer.

Dinner in Sundance Square, Fort Worth

Posted: December 2, 2024

I drove over to Fort Worth in the afternoon to meet up with Kalyn and Sean and the kids after work. We ended up going out to dinner over in Sundance Square at a place called "Buffalo Bros", a sports bar on the square. I have never seen the Sundance Square Christmas tree so after dinner, we went over to the actual Square where its located but to my dismay, the Tree was not lit up. It wasn't scheduled to have the lighting ceremony until tomorrow :-( Epic Fail! So we wandered around a little bit but headed to the car to go home so the kids could get to bed at a decent hour. Not sure if we'll make it back to see the tree or not.
